DFU (Device Firmware Upgrade) mode allows all devices to be restored from any state. If recovery mode doesn’t work for you and you could not restore your iPhone, then you need to Put iPhone in DFU Mode. Here’s how to put iPhone 8 in DFU mode.
How to put iPhone 8 in DFU mode:
- Connect your iPhone to your Mac or PC with a Lightning to USB cable.
- Press and release the Volume Up button (1), press and release the Volume Down button (2), and press and hold the Side button (3) for 10 seconds until the screen turns black.
- While still holding the Side button (3), press and hold the Volume Down (2) button for 5 seconds, and then release the Side button (3) while continuing to hold the Volume Down button (3) for another 10 seconds. The screen should remain black.
- Launch iTunes, and you should see a message stating that “iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes.”
How to Exit DFU Mode on iPhone 8
Press the Side button (3) and the Volume Down (2) button together until the Apple logo appears on your iPhone’s screen. After a couple of seconds, your iPhone will boot into the Lock screen.
