How To Get Rid Of A Hangover

It is common for people who drink too much alcohol to suffer from dizziness, headaches, nausea and even vomiting the next day. These hangover symptoms usually last from a few hours to an entire day – depending on the actions you take as soon as these symptoms appear. Nobody enjoys these hours after consuming too much alcohol. But there are many different techniques to treat the situation and help you regain your energy back. If you are tired of pulling back your hair and sitting in front of the toilet in the morning to vomit, below are some of the tips how to get rid of a hangover.

How To Get Rid Of A Hangover:

1. Drink Plenty Of Fluids

This is the simplest and the most effective tip you can follow. The headache you feel the next morning is caused by dehydration or the lack of fluids in your body. To rehydrate your body, drink plenty of water the next day. Doing so will help you eliminate the remaining alcohol in your bloodstream and replenish the lost fluids.

You can drink vegetable-mixed juices, water-based soups or any beverage that does not contain any caffeine. Aside from rehydrating, these can also alleviate your headache. You can also drink plenty of water after the drinking session before you go to sleep and expect bathroom disturbances in the middle of the night.

2. Use Ginger

For centuries, people have used ginger to combat nausea and vomiting. The National Institutes of Health revealed that consuming a combination of brown sugar, tangerine pith and ginger right before you start drinking will decrease the likelihood of getting a hangover.

You can use ginger in two ways. First, cut a piece of this spice root and nibble on it after the drinking session is over. You can also consume natural ginger candies that many pregnant women use to relieve morning sickness.

Another way to use ginger to fight hangover is to drink natural and freshly brewed ginger tea. This has been used in traditional Chinese medicine as a long-standing natural remedy to fight nausea and other stomach problems.

3. Eat Fatty Foods

Greasing up before you drink is one of the longstanding remedies for preventing a hangover. You can take a spoonful of olive oil before you party or you can eat fatty foods like pizza, burgers or fries. Eating fatty foods will grease up your intestines and slow down the absorption of alcohol in your system.

4. Eat Eggs or Bananas

You can relieve your headache by eating eggs. They contain cysteine, an amino acid that helps break down the acetaldehyde –  the toxic byproduct of alcohol into acetic acid which is the acid found in vinegar and is relatively harmless to your health.

Along with fluid loss, diuretic drinks like alcohol can make you lose potassium, causing you to feel some malaise. To reverse this, you can eat bananas or any fruits that contain potassium. You can also drink sports drinks that contain potassium and other electrolytes that will help you rehydrate.

5. Go For A Jog

After drinking some water, go for a jog. A little exercise during a hangover can help you flush out the toxins, get you to drink more fluids and distract you from the other symptoms of hangover like nausea and headache.

Exercising help release the feel-good hormones in your body. When this happens, you ultimately feel lighter and your headache will eventually subside. As long as you do not forget to drink water, you will eventually feel fine again.

It usually takes 8 to 24 hours for such symptoms to disappear. In the meantime, you can try these simple and natural ways to avoid hangover after a night of drinking. There is no exact cure for it. But a surefire way for avoiding a hangover is to know your limits or to not drink at all.
